January 11, 2021
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the second half of the 2020-2021 school year! We are so excited to welcome students back to Tomball Junior High, and we hope you had a wonderful holiday season.
We are hitting the ground running with our next formal test of the year: the STAAR Interim Assessment. This assessment will give teachers valuable data to identify each student’s strengths and opportunities for growth, and serve as a strong predictor of potential STAAR performance at the end of the year. Teachers will be including the data from the Interim Assessments alongside other tests, quizzes and assignments to plan spring interventions.
All students, both virtual and face-to-face, will take the Math Interim on February 3 and the Reading Interim on February 4. Students will be given the first three class periods to complete the test. Students who are in Algebra will take the Algebra Interim Assessment instead of the Math Interim. Eighth graders will also take the Science and Social Studies Interims in their regular class during the first two weeks of March.
These tests will be given online for all students. For students testing at home, Google Chrome is the best browser to use for the test, but Safari and Firefox will work, too. Students will be trained on how to use the online testing platform via a video on January 25. Face to face students will watch it during PAW period and TVS students will be sent the same training video via Schoology by their 6th period teachers. This information will also be available on my campus webpage.
We are so excited to see the great things our TJHS Cougars will do with this assessment, and we look forward to celebrating their strengths and progress alongside you!
If you have any questions regarding the STAAR Interim Assessment or how students will take the test, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call my office at 281-357-3000, x4495.
